Beauchasseur

South Australia

I am Chris Lawrence from Lower Light in country South Australia. I started with my first basset hound in 1972. She was a fat neutered bitch that I rescued from a home that no longer wanted her. From that point on I was completely besotted with the breed.

My husband bought me a puppy bitch the following year and it was then I "knew" I was hooked.

My husband and I were actively involved in the registered hunt pack here in South Australia for several years and this gave me a wonderful insight into what this beautiful breed was originally bred for and the conformation needed to do their work as a consistent hunter.

I come from a “dog” family, with my father having bred, showed and judged rough coated collies for many years (in England). It just seemed perfectly natural for me to progress into the show scene and from there into breeding bassets.

I bred my first litter in 1975 and in 1977 the litter was born that produced my first Best in Show winner, Ch Beauchasseur Dior. Since then I have continued on successfully breeding and showing with numerous top winning bassets for Beauchasseur.

I would like to thank Mrs Barbara Philpots-Green of Chienbas Basset and Jan and Jim Scoble of Conmurra Bassets for giving me the start I needed.

To Melodye Wagner of Vahhala Bassets a huge thankyou for allowing Am Ch Vahhala’s Dreamchaser to come to us in Australia and making my dreams come true.

I also owe Lyn and Gordon Horton of Lynsluv Bassets, tremendous thanks as without them I would not be able to travel to all the shows.

Thankyou also goes to Terry Keen of Dacshoe Dachshunds for all her help with whelping. Day or night she is always there for me.

Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

We have now entered into the delightful world of the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen with Grand Champion Ebbtide Fitzroy Fred and Ch Ebbtide Jolie Gabriella joining the hounds here at Beauchasseur and both gaining their titles here with me.

Thanks to Erin Carter, Karyn Carr and Kyra Carr for their handling expertise with Fred and a special thanks to Brittany Farrell for taking Gabby through to her title.

Fred is the first PBGV in Australia to obtain the prestigious title of grand champion

Thanks to Mrs Pat Hayes Johnson of Ebbtide PBGV’S for sending these amazing and comical petits to me.
